Maggie L. Harrer is a producer, director and choreographer of plays, musicals, opera, television, film and festivals, Off-Broadway, for Regional Theaters (including The Goodspeed Opera House and SF’s Magic Theater), The Pennsylvania Opera Theater and Lake George Opera Festival, among others, and directed "Another World" for NBC Television. Ms. Harrer recently adapted, directed and choreographed a new jazz musical,
A Jazz Dream, the musical, based on Shakespeare’s
Midsummer Night’s Dream for University of North Texas’ Departments of Dance, Theatre and Jazz; and directed and choreographed UFOMT’s
Kiss Me Kate and
South Pacific. Ms. Harrer’s Magic Theater production of Joel Homer’s
Private Scenes won "Best Play" and "Best Director" nominations and was transferred Off-Broadway by The Dodgers. While running her dance/theater company, The PH Factor, she was nominated for a MacArthur Fellowship. Ms. Harrer produced and directed OperaFest on Martha’s Vineyard for four years and Directed OperaFest Italia 2011 in Tolentino and Polenza, Italy. Ms. Harrer develops new works including a musical
Fahrenheit 451 with Ray Bradbury at the O’Neill Theater Festival; Caytha Jentis’
It’s All About the Kids, a wickedly witty, dark comedy about sex, sports and power; and
Boomers, a coming-of-age in the ’60’s musical by David Buskin and Jake Holmes at the York Theater in NYC. She co-produced the indie film
And Then Came Love, starring Vanessa Williams, Eartha Kitt, Ben Vereen, which was sold to Warner Brothers and WE Television and scripted & directed three short features on the DVD of the movie. Ms. Harrer teaches master classes in the United States and Europe in acting, directing, dance, choreography, and seminars on Entrepreneurship for the Arts at the Brevard Summer Music Festival. She was Artistic Director for the OABC, Inc., for ten years producing arts festivals in NJ; was a Consulting Director for the NYU Graduate Music Theater Program; a director and Dramaturge for the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center; and co-Founder and Producing Director of the National Music Theater Network in NYC. She served as On-Site Evaluator for the NEA; on the Grants Committee for Opera America; the Performing Panel for the NJ Arts Council, the Block Grants Panel for Bergen County; and the Playwriting Panel for the Conn. Commission for the Arts. Ms. Harrer lives in NJ with her husband, the trumpeter Rick Henly. Their daughter is singer/actress Katherine Henly.
