Michael's varied and productive career thus far has included appearances on many operatic and theatrical stages across the country. Jones has been heard on National Public Radio, American Public Media, the European Broadcasting Union and Minnesota Public Radio as well as performances with the Boston Pops, Atlanta Opera, and at the Kennedy Center. He won the right to sing solo on stage at Carnegie Hall, and has even been seen on the CBS series "I'll Fly Away" with Sam Waterston.
After graduating from the North Carolina School of the Arts in 2002, Michael was offered and sang the role of Almaviva in
Il Barbiere di Siviglia with the Central Florida Lyric Opera. Soon thereafter, Michael served as a studio artist for the Orlando Opera Company. While in Orlando Mr. Jones performed several comprimario roles on main stage, including a series of concerts with the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. Michael was then offered the role of Albert Lennox in Lucy Simon's
The Secret Garden with the Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre. Next, Michael returned to Orlando Opera to sing Zweiter Jude in Strauss's
Salome, sharing the stage with Grammy winner Gary Lakes. Since then, Mr. Jones has performed as The Caliph in
Kismet, Reverend Samuel Parris in Robert Ward's
The Crucible, George in
She Loves Me, and Elder Gleaton in
Susannah. He has served as the artist cover as Belmonte in Mozart's
Abduction from the Seraglio, and Pong in Puccini's
Turandot. Michael has performed oratorios with several chamber orchestras including the Orlando Chamber Orchestra, the Brevard Symphony, and the Vero Beach Opera.
Most recently Mr. Jones has been touring the country with Cantus, a professional male chamber music ensemble. Cantus is one of the foremost chamber ensembles in the world of classical music today. They have received rave reviews from the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Gramophone Magazine, the International Record Review, and several other leading journals for classical musicians. Cantus has commissioned new works from American composers Lee Hoiby, Eddie Hill, and Steven Sametz.
