Described as "magnificent" by the Boston Globe, baritone Daniel Cilli has garnered praise for his "cultivated, sonorous vocalism" and "strong, beautiful, impeccably produced voice" (Opera News). During the 2013-14 season his appearances include Dandini in La Cenerentola with Livermore Opera, multiple roles in a double bill of Les mamelles de Tirésias and Mahagonny Songspiel with Opera Paralellé, and Giancarlo Aquilanti's Oxford Companions with Stanford University. He debuts with Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre in Summer 2014 as Javert in Les Misérables and Captain Tarnitz in The Student Prince.
During 2012-13 Daniel Cilli performed the title role Carlo Gesualdo in the premiere reading of Gesualdo: Prince of Madness by Dante DeSilva on commission from Opera Paralellé; Marco in Gianni Schicchi at Sacramento Opera; Baron Douphol in La Traviata at Livermore Valley Opera; and Captain Corcoran in a concert of H.M.S. Pinafore with Music in the Mountains Festival. His other recent operatic appearances include the title role in Don Giovanni at West Bay Opera; Bobby in Mahagonny Songspiel and Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos with West Edge Opera; and Papageno in a semi-staged production of Die Zauberflöte with the Baltimore Symphony under Marin Alsop.
While a principal baritone from 2006-2010 at Opera San José, Mr. Cilli performed the roles of Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo in Cosí Fan Tutte, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Onegin in Eugene Onegin, Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette, Dandini in La Cenerentola, Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Albert in Werther, Belcore in L'Elisir d'Amore, and Marullo in Rigoletto. As a Studio Artist at the Houston Grand Opera, Daniel Cilli was involved in four productions including two world premieres: performing in Mark Adamo's Lysistrata and covering the role of Chucho in Daniel Catán's Salsipuedes. He has also appeared as a Young Artist with Utah Opera and Central City Opera.
On the concert stage Mr. Cilli has appeared with Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in Fauré's Requiem; with the Stamford Symphony performing Beethoven's Symphony No. 9; performed Handel's Messiah with the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park and Pacific Chamber Symphony; Orff's Carmina Burana with the Greater Buffalo Youth Orchestra; and Ravel's Chansons Madécasses with Avedis Ensemble. His other recent concert appearances include performances with Utah Symphony, San Juan Symphony, South Valley Symphony, Aspen Music Festival, and Tanglewood Music Festival.
Daniel holds vocal performance degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music and Stetson University, and has studied Lieder at the Franz Schubert Institute of Baden bei Wien, Austria.
