"There's a bright golden haze on the meadow" are the first words Oscar Hammerstein wrote and sent to Richard Rodgers to put to music, beginning the greatest collaboration in musical theatre history. The work would be called Oklahoma! and it changed musical theatre forever. Never before had a musical integrated book, music, and dance. It would go on to break every Broadway record, running for more than five years. Seventy years later it still resonates with romance and suspense because basic human values and dreams never change.
